What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a users view of the real world. AR content can be accessed by scanning or viewing a trigger image with a mobile device that creates a subsequent action. This action can be a video, another image, 3D animations, games, QR code or whatever you want it to be. Augmented Reality apps connected to content can create mind blowing learning experiences and endless learning possibilities!

Watch the following video for an explanation of what Augmented Reality is and how it is used in our society.

What are some other examples of Augmented Reality being used in society?

The hardware components for Augmented Reality are - processor, display sensors and input devices. Modern mobile computing devices like smartphones and tablet computers contain these elements which often include a camera and MEMS sensors such as accelerometer, GPS, and a solid state compass, making them suitable Augmented Reality platforms.

AR technology can be displayed by using optical projections systems, monitors, hand held devices, or display systems worn on the body. Examples of these include head mounted, eyeglasses, goggles, or contact lenses.
